We got our hands on the Star Wars RTX Demo which showcases some of the awesome reflection and refraction capabilities available with RTX including its capability to render all of it in real time on the GPU. Please excuse the video quality, finding a program that would capture well and make reasonable file sizes in a tight timeframe was not friendly, so they had to be remuxed to get a usable file size from the raw capture.
1080 Ti 4K
As you can see here that at 4K the Ray tracing is simply too hard for the previous flagship GeForce card and the 1080Ti is struggling in the 4-5FPS range sometimes getting into the 6’s.
TITAN Xp 4K
The TITAN XP Fares a little better and being a Star Wars Empire card, I had high hopes… but the Empire looks like it meets its match as it could not pull off a steady 10+ FPS either in the RTX demo.
RTX 2080 4K
The RTX 2080, while being the smaller TU-104 powered unit, still pulled off the 24FPS+ which is what this demo was designed for. (Cinema Framerate) and when removing the cap it shot up into the 50’s so this shows the raw horsepower and amazing realism available with proper ray tracing. Now do keep in mind this is not a pre-rendered demo, the Ray Tracing is happening as you watch the demo play out on the GPU!
RTX 2080 Ti 4K
As we know the RTX 2080 pulled off an easy run at the desired 24FPS for cinema-like quality exactly like the demo was built for, there was no doubt that the RTX 2080 Ti would be able to do it, and it certainly did with plenty of frames to spare.
