Patriot Viper 4 2800MHz 16GB (2x8GB) Dual-Channel Memory Kit

BENCHMARKS – SiSoft Sandra

The first benchmark program we will be running is the venerable SiSoft Sandra; a benchmark software package that we at Bjorn3D like to use quite a bit.

Surprisingly, SiSoft Sandra has the Patriot Viper 4 kit scoring at the top of our list for memory bandwidth; it scored 34.76 Integer and 34.87 Float. This rather surprised us, since the timings are not as low as the HyperX kit we tested, but the numbers don’t lie and this was achieved with less voltage.

In the Cache/Memory test we found all the memory kits performed similarly and the slight differences are within an acceptable margin of error. Because of how close the numbers are, we have to call it a tie, since it is too close to call a clear winner in this test.

In modern computing, so much data is encrypted and compressed that cryptographic bandwidth really is a factor in computing, and it bogs down computing more than you would think. On the Memory Bandwidth test we are running approximately 35.3GB/s, but when you factor in cryptography, we only managed to hit 10.29GB/s. The Patriot Viper 4 kit put out a solid 10.29GB/s, and on paper this might not sound like much, but if you’re running a Bitcoin mining operation or [email protected], that little bit of extra bandwidth will calculate into huge gains over time.

Patriot_Viper_4_8

In the SiSoft Sandra latency test the Patriot Viper 4 memory kit scored 19.9ns of latency. This kit performed better than then we expected and even beat out several kits with lower CAS timings. It might not seem like much of a lead, but if you are doing large amounts of memory intensive computing, you will be glad you had the edge this memory gives you.
