Testing & Methodology

Testing a given keyboard is normally a subjective matter, peoples tastes and wants in their peripherals are becoming more sophisticated. At one point there was one keyboard, an 86 key metal monstrosity weighing 7 or 8 pounds and fully capable fo putting holes in walls and defeating car jackers. Shortly later 101 key keyboards hit the market, lighter plastic that didn’t really offer more than the extra 15 keys. Gaming started moving out of the Arcade and onto televisions and computers and the peripheral race was on. We have been using testing and writing about peripherals for more than 25 years and the best way to test a gaming keyboard is to jump into a well know and loved game, in our case L4D2 FPS with a zombie backdrop and a 4 person zombie killing team.

Then after an arduous day of Zombie slaughter pausing only to take notes and have a tug at the perpetual Code Red Beverage then catch a good nights sleep and have at a complex key pattern game we aren’t familiar with.  In out case we went one further and since we have the BlackWidow Non-Chroma version at hand we game for 3 hours using the non-chroma version then 3 hours with the Razer BlackWidow Chroma using the L4D template we created using Synapse.
