OtterBox Note5 line of case’s

Conclusion

Award_GoldAs we mentioned in the beginning, this is not a comparison type review. We say this because protective cases are not a one size fits all when it comes to protecting your device. Which is why we feel that Otterbox went with three different cases with varying levels of thickness and protection. This way you can pick the case that most appropriately matches the level of durability you need based on what you do for work, your activities, and how tough you are on your devices.   For example if you’re a mechanic and/or you participate in many rough activities that put your device at a higher risk of being dropped or hit, then the Defender is more for you and the cases scale down the line if you need less durability. For most users the Commuter offers a good balance between thickness and protection

During our testing of the OtterBox line of cases on our personal Samsung Note5 devices, we experienced several accidental falls and thanks to the protection of the cases the devices brushed these falls off with no damage. Now while we did not do any torture testing trying to cause damage to the devices, the drops we experienced without a cause would have typically caused some damage,. However, the only visible damage was minor scuffs on the OtterBox case.   We also like to note that the raised beveled edge on the cases does offer some protection of the screen.

As for installation of the cases, they are all fairly easy to install with the exception of the Commuter case’s screen protector that you have to install yourself.   We found this to be problematic and in the end we were unable to successfully install the single one they provided in the box.   We feel that this is the one setback of the line and would have liked to have seen a hard screen protector like the Alpha Glass they sell.   Even without the screen protector installed the raised beveled edge provides a degree of screen protection.

The pricing for the cases for the Samsung Note5 ranges between $44.99 and $79.99 depending on the case you pick and the different color options that OtterBox has available.   We feel that this pricing is justifiable given the level of protection they give to protect an expensive device like the Note5 and we would recommend them to anyone who has this device or is considering it. OtterBox has also torture tested all their cases to ensure they can live up to what life can throw at them.
