A Closer Look at the MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming

As we have now looked at a good handful of Gaming series cards I can safely say that MSI keeps a running theme with each series of cards with the motherboard and graphics in the gaming series packaging actually being very similar which is nice as it is very easy to identify that these units are without a doubt from the same series. The front of the box carries the silver dragon while also the MSI Gaming crest is also in place along with the name of the card finishing off the front.
The rear is your spec info going into a few details regarding specs and features.

Here you see what comes in the box which is a PATA to 6 Pin adapter, a 6 pin to 8 pin converter and a VGA adapter along with the quick start guide and install CD. This may seem a bit scant but it is everything needed to get the card hooked up and running. Also it is worth noting that the cards are eligible for a current running promotion from Nvidia to get free copies of Batman Arkham Origins, Assasins Creed IV and Splinter Cell: Blacklist with the purchase of the Nvidia Geforce card.

The card as you can see employs the Twin Frozr IV cooler which utilizes dual 10cm fans for maximum cooling potential although it is also worth noting that the cooler makes the card height a bit taller than reference.
The rear of the PCB is pretty standard fare not employing backplate and just keeping it pretty much stock in appearance.

The display connectivity is about standard for what we have seen on the Kepler based lineup
- 2x DVI
- 1x HDMI
- 1x Displayport
This all digital connector arrangement allows for maxing out the GPU with up to 4 displays and even a surround plus accessory display array should the need arise.

Here you see that the custom PCB MSI 780 Ti does have some minor changes over reference with flipped PCIe power connectors which latch on the opposite side so that you do not need to fight getting fingers behind the coolers fin array to release the PCIe Power cable clips.
The Dual SLI bridge connections allow for expanding up to 4 Way SLI for an insane amount of graphics processing power.

Pulling the Gaming model Ti apart you can see that all of that cooling power of the Twin Frozr IV cooler centralizes down to the GPU via a large plate for contact to dissipate heat out effectively via the large fin array. also do note that the Twin Frozr solution employs a few very large or fatter heatpipes to further improve cooler efficiency.
Under the cooler you will find a black colored cover plate which serves as a stiffening body but also a heatsink for the onboard components such as the VRM and memory, and the air coming threw the fin array is also used to cool this plate as well.

And removing the heatspreader plate from the card you can see that for the most part the gaming 780 Ti model is reference based which is not necessarily a bad thing as the reference design showed to be pretty strong at stock and even when pushing clocks to some pretty extreme limits on air.
The mini PCB/VRM controller card PCB is found here near the VRM area on the front side of the PCB which is similar to the reference model as well.
The Memory employed on the gaming model is Hynix and runs at 7GHz at default but I do plan to give it a shot at pinning some nice OC numbers in this tetsing.
