Nvidia DLSS 2.0 and the Nvidia RTX2060-Max Q

Shadow of the Tombraider (DLSS 1.0)

Next game is Shadow of the Tombraider. In March 2019 the game received a patch with added support for Ray tracing and DLSS. This means it is still “just” DLSS 1.0.

Setting: High

The results surprise me a bit. It seems that DLSS simply does not help here at all. I’m not sure if it is because I run the game at “only” 1080p and that the older version of DLSS was mostly focused on higher resolutions and ray tracing but it seems better not to turn on DLSS in this game, regardless if I use ray tracing or not.

I included the number on how much of the benchmark the GPu was the limiting factor. DLSS is supposed to help more where the GPu is limiting as it renders the game at a lower resolution before scaling it up to the display resolution. It seems that DLSS should be working as intended as the benchmark is GPU-limited for a longer period which should mean better performance. I am not sure why this has not translated into better performance.

Screenshots

The main issue with this implementation of DLSS is that it blurs the image. Below are a few screenshots that show that the detail in the background is impacted a lot.
