“Gamers, take notice. Rivals, take notes.”
Hello hardware enthusiast. For today’s review menu we are serving 100% American made high quality memory modules from Mushkin. The exact kit on review today is the all new Redline Ridgeback 8GB Dual-Channel DDR4-2666MHz (15-15-15-35) (997192T). The world got it’s first taste of Mushkin’s newly re imagined Ridgeback line at CES 2015 and admirers were surely eager to see how they perform and how the new visual design will look in their own rig. If you have not yet had a chance to personally get hands on with a Mushkin product or maybe have just discovered them recently – make no mistake, they are not some new untested contender. Mushkin got it’s start in 1994 founding a reputation of providing high quality components and is on a small list of companies that can say they design, assemble and test their products in the United States of America, that warrants giving Mushkin the time of day on it’s own in our opinion. These kits are brand new and still a bit hard to track down but we have seen them in the $50 range which instantly makes wallets sigh with relief.
With it’s 2666MHz / 15-15-15-35 timing XMP profile the Redline Ridgeback (997192T) comes out of the box ready to deliver speedy results. As for the new design changes, we are 100% on board with the direction Mushkin has chosen. The new Ridgeback G2 heatsinks are constructed of aircraft grade aluminum which offers great heat dissipation. The styling is right on cue with the direction we see motherboards heading in and should compliment most builds right now like it was made specifically for it.
The bare metal finish textured accent designs add another level of detail to the shields. These sections are a near mirror finish and should nicely reflect whatever lights you have going on inside your case. The top of the shields are slanted and feature 13 heat dispersion slots because Mushkin doesn’t care about superstition only quality hardware.
There is only one aspect about our Redline Ridgeback kit we did not enjoy, well a few of us anyway, some of us didn’t mind.  We wondered why Mushkin did not go with a black PCB on these kits. We have seen other Mushkin Redline kits with the black PCB which looks much better complimenting the Ridgeback shields in our opinion. Considering a large portion of motherboard PCB are black nowadays it would also look better in a build. We installed our kit on a MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT and while the color and design of the shields was a perfect match and looked amazing, the green PCB didn’t match the Impact’s black which set off our perfectionist tendencies. Overall if the only thing we didn’t like is something essentially opinion (looks) than this kit is a win. All that truly matters is performance and that’s where the Redline Ridgeback 2666MHz left us undivided, it’s a good kit.
A close up on the stick reveals exact specifications (997192T). Packaging is straight forward, to the point, focused on showcasing the new heatsink design.
