Conclusion
The Samsung Portable SSD T1 is without a doubt an impressive little flash drive. Once upon a time an external drive meant pretty slow performance as a 5400 rpm or in extreme cases and 7200 rpm hard drive was used. The Samsung Portable SSD T1 is a great example how far we’ve come. What impresses us is that we basically get SSD-performance in a tiny form factor. True, it might not be as fast as desktop SSD’s in most synthetic benchmarks but looking at the more real-life benchmarks it is not far behind. If 500 GB is to small Samsung offers a 1 TB drive in the same small enclosure so you do not even have to sacrifice storage space for the speed.
The 500 GB version of this drive will set you back around $220 from Amazon. Compared to other SSD-based external drives this is actually a very good price, especially when you think about the great performance in the tiny enclosure. If you compare it to other regular drive based external drives it is more expensive but it makes it all up with speed.
We have no problems recommending this drive and awarding it the Golden Bear Award. Regardless if you need a external drive for your portfolio while visiting clients or want to increase the storage on your laptop without any compromises, the Samsung Portable SSD T1 is the right drive for you.
