Cooler Master V550 Closer Look
Here you can see the first look at the power supply. The styling is par for the course on the Cooler Master V series except the numbers. On the top we can see a honeycomb design covering the 120mm fan, which we will get to later in the review. In the center of that honey comb design is a logo of the Cooler Master brand. Surrounding the honey comb architecture is a beautiful brushed metal look that we have seen on the previous models. Below that is a yet another honey comb side allowing great airflow, as well as a power cable port and a on/off switch.
Taking a look around the V500 you can see the brushed metal that we have enjoyed on all the V series. As well as a small glimpse at the sickle fan blades of the Silencio 120MM fan. We also get our first look to see the V550 has become fully modular. Like all modern, well-constructed power supplies, the V750 is an active PFC power supply. Look at the back of your power supply and if you see a 115 / 230 orange slide switch, quietly and quickly turn off your machine and buy a real PFC power supply. Generally power supplies with the 115 / 230 switch are old stockpile, non-active PFC and you have to select the input voltage manually.
Here is a look at the new 3D circuit design that allows for higher efficiency and improves heat dissipation. You can also see the 100% all Japanese capacitors that ensure clean consistent power as well as minimizing power fluctuations. All of this on a small red, modular designed PCB. Utilizing a modular system and going vertical with the PCB allows for the entire power supply to fit perfectly with small cases or smaller form factor systems. Where the cables have gone fully modular on the outside, the circuitry design inside has followed suit.
Here can see just how much smaller this power supply is compared to the average size of most PSU’s on the market. At only 5.5″ in length, the V550 is great for small form factor systems. This will allow for not only more clearance for the connectors of the cables, which is a huge thing over looked by most companies, it will also allow the V550 to fit in nearly every case on the market. This size, combined with the very nice flat ribbon style cables, is a recipe perfect for small form factor builds.
On top of the new 3D circuit design sits the tried and true Cooler Master Silencio Fan technology. This exclusive fan enhances airflow, reduces vibration, and provides one of the best thermal performance on the market for small spaces, this fan does the job well. Due to the unique shape of the fan blades it allows for excellent dust protection and low noise, while maintaining an excellent amount of airflow.
The V550 has a flat ribbon cable design for better cable management. These fully modular cables are stealthy black to not only make the build look nicer but also fit in with most color schemes. The SATA cable design allows for multiple hard drives to be powered with only one cable, allowing a cleaner over all look as well as making it more convenient and simpler for cable management.
The specifications table on the V550 is pretty standard as it’s an active PFC power supply, fully modular and Haswell ready.
For protections you get:
- Over Volt
- Under Volt
- Over Power
- Over Temp
- Short Circuit
The rest is pretty normal except for the 5 year warranty which is the longest Warranty we’ve seen to date.
