Seagate entered rackmount NAS market with the new 8-bay and 4-bay 1 U rackmoutn. The rackmount will be compatible with Windows PCs and Apple’s Time Machine. The rackmount will come with a new version of the Seagate NAS OS that has integrated Wuala cloud service and business-focused apps for PC, Mac, smartphone, and tablet. As the rackmount NAS is designed for business in mind, the Wuala apps “automatically sync files and make them accessible from mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Android devices to improve empolyees’ productivity while on the go.”
The 8-bay model is powered by Intel 2.3 GHz dual core processor, eight Enterprise Capacity (formally Constellation ES.3) drives, and dual Gigabit Ethernet. The 4-bay model uses 2.13 GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM, and Seagate NAS HDD. Both units will be available in October. The 8-bay carries an MSRP of $2,999.99 for 8TB capacity and up to $5,999.99 for 32TB capacity. While 4-bay model will carry MSRP of $1,299.99 and $2,499.99 for 4TB and 16TB capacity, respectively.

The 4-bay 1U rackmount will be available at the same retail outlets later this quarter. The rackmount itself will be available without drives for an affordable price point of $999.99 MSRP. The lowest capacity 4-terabyte model will retail at an MSRP of $1299.99 and $2499.99 for the 16-terabyte model.
