AMD Ryzen Threadripper and Ryzen 3 Product Updates

Out of the blue this morning, AMD published a video on YouTube that provides some details about the upcoming AMD Ryzen Threadripper and Ryzen 3 product lines.

Ryzen Threadripper 1950X

As we have known for a while the 1950X will be composed of 16 cores and 32 threads. What we officially know now is that the base clock is 3.4Ghz and the boost clock is a flat 4.0Ghz. Priced at an MSRP of $999, AMD seems to be out for blood in the HEDT market. Intel’s i9-7900X which features 10 cores and 20 threads running at a base of 3.3Ghz and boosting up to 4.5Ghz comes in at the same $999 price point, so it will be interesting to see what the performance per dollar figures look like between the two.

Ryzen Threadripper 1920X

Scaling things back a bit, the 1920X will offer 12 cores and 24 threads for an MSRP of $799. The 1920X will offer at 3.5Ghz base clock and 4.0Ghz boost.

Ryzen 3 1300X

Rounding out the Ryzen desktop platform is the Ryzen 3 lineup, with the 1300X leading the way. The 1300X will feature a four core, four thread architecture running at a base clock of 3.5Ghz and boosting to 3.7Ghz.

Ryzen 3 1200

Finally, the Ryzen 3 1200 will also offer four cores and four threads running a base and boost of 3.1Ghz and 3.4Ghz, respectively.

Launches

We can expect the Ryzen Threadripper and associated X399 motherboards to be available “in early August 2017”. The Ryzen 3 launch comes a bit sooner, with that product line becoming available on July 27th.
