Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler

Computer enthusiasts are demanding more from their computers systems then what they receive from the manufacturer. Often times, settings will be tweaked and hardware may be over-clocked so that more performance may be squeezed from the system. When more performance is demanded, it usually brings increased heat with it. This is where the aftermarket industry has really catered to the computer enthusiast. Thanks to Jetart, system builders and performance enthusiasts will have a new tool to help maintain a cool running and stable system. The Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler is a perfect fit and replacement for the standard Pentium-based Northbridge chipset cooling solution.

If you want to overclock the front side bus on your motherboard to the extreme, then the original equipment heatsink just won’t do.  The Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler is a perfect fit and replacement for the standard Pentium-based Northbridge chipset cooling solution.

Jetart: Company Overview

Established in 1989, Jetart began as an ODM business for domestic and overseas customers from their office in Taiwan.  Jetart’s ODM business includes lines of computer peripherals, electronic parts and other relating products.  Up to 1994 there were about 300 design projects completed.  In view of ODM design background, Jetart’s research & development department has always played a very important role.

Nowadays, Jetart is not only a cooling devices designer but also a very professional & well-organized manufacturer, as well as an exporter.  In recent years, their focus has been on developing “Thermal Solution” related products.  All materials and production process are under very strict quality control procedures, and their capacity has come up to 12 millions pieces per year.

Jetart JACSG1 Retail Kit

Once you open the retail bubble pack, the cardboard insert opens up with printed instructions for installation and assembly.  Of course, everything is very straight forward and uncomplicated.

INSTALLATION

Unlike some AMD-based motherboards, access to the Intel-based motherboards usually does not require you to remove your motherboard.  This makes the Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler a perfect aftermarket upgrade.  Installation could not be easier: you simply screw the fan onto the top of the heatsink, then remove the old heatsink by depressing the arm and turning, apply a thin layer of thermal compound and install the new one as pictured.  Jetart offers these same step-by-step instructions in the cardboard fold of the package.

Install JACSG1 to complete Installation

Since Jetart has designed the JACSG1 as a direct replacement, there are no special tools required for installation.  In fact, I used my own two hands, so there were no tools required at all.  The rubber rings on the “right” side of the unit are the last two to be pushed down, and the rubber allows for an improved grip to assist against the tension of the SK7 clip system.

PERFORMANCE

For testing purposes, I installed the JACSG1 onto my Foxconn 945P7AA-8EKRS2 motherboard.  This motherboard has been over-clocked to 220MHz FSB, which adds some strain and raises temperatures to the North Bridge chipset.  While Foxconn may have seen fit to maintain passive cooling in order to reduce noise, the heatsink can become extremely hot.  The fan on the Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler is so silent that you would not hear it even if there were no other fans present, and adds the benefit of active cooling.  This kind of silent running fan is rare for such a small size with high RPM’s.

All of the temperature readings taken were from the Foxconn system BIOS.  This way, I could record the chipset system temperature without the interference of software.  In addition, all temperatures for both the OEM heatsink and the Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler were measured at the exact same ambient temperature.

Chipset Performance Chart

You will notice by the simple chart above that the OEM cooling solution tends to run a few degrees hotter then the Jetart JACSG1 North Bridge Cooler.  I attribute this improved cooling to the 5400RPM active cooling fan and special SK7 clip system on the JACSG1 which holds the unit onto the chipset tighter and at all four corners.  Of course the colored LED’s do nothing for performance, but they added a bit of flash to the inside of the case which most enthusiasts will enjoy.

CONCLUSION

I found Jetart JACSG1 to be a very solid solution for North Bridge chipset cooling which I can highly recommend.  While the cooling fan generates nearly no sound, and the helps to improve the appearance of the case, the specialized SK7 clip system utilizes all four latches for square and evenly distributed pressure.

In all of my tests with the Jetart cooler, I was impressed that it could cool so well while having a heatsink nearly half the mass of the OEM version.  If there was a recommendation to be made, it would be to request a slightly larger heatsink made of copper and a larger fan to match.

The only part of this product that is remotely negative, if it can be considered that, it the lack of merchants who carry this product.  At the time of this writing I was unable to locate a major online merchant who sells this product.  Let’s hope readers will see the benefit of upgrading their stock cooling solutions at generate demand.

Pros:

+ Silent running 40mm fan
+ Perfect fit and evenly distributed pressure
+ Flashing fan LED’s help dress a neglected component
+ Very small size cools efficiently

Cons:

Heatsink and fan could have been upsized to 50mm

Final Score: I have rated this product a 7.5 out of 10, and award the Bjorn3d.com Seal of Approval.

I would like to give a special thanks to Jetart for sending us this great product for review.
